We teach your child to think, communicate and develop as a writer. Our 90-minute sessions enable your child to explore and engage with relevant and thought-provoking topics and ideas that inspire them to write across a wide range of genres. Using prompts such as contemporary and classic literature, picture books, emotive images and film clips; we discuss and analyse what great writing feels, looks and sounds like.
Focusing on at least one aspect of vocabulary, punctuation or grammar every session, in the context of each type and piece of writing, we help your child understand the essential building blocks of writing and how to use them most effectively. We help your child to develop their writing voice and to understand that the best writing, whether fictional or factual, formal or informal, must be written with conviction and for an audience. And, because of the longer sessions, there is plenty of time and opportunity for focused, extended writing.
Individual written feedback is provided every week so your child can celebrate and repeat their successes and identify and address areas for further improvement. Your child will be taught how to review and edit their writing for content, impact and accuracy and therefore take control of their own progress. We are passionate about developing children’s confidence, curiousity and resilience so they thrive on new learning and learn and bounce back from their mistakes.
Strong relationships between pupils, parents and tutors underpin our programme: parents attend the last 15 minutes of every session. By observing your child learn and listening to them read their writing aloud, you see and hear their progress first-hand and provide an authentic and motivating audience for their work.
Our programme enables your child to write with confidence and conviction, communicating what they want to say to the appropriate audience – a life skill that transfers across the curriculum and, most importantly, to the real world.
